Thank you Mr.Getty!
If you had billions would you create an exact copy of a Roman villa? That's what John Paul Getty did on the Malibu coast of California. The original one was buried by the eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in 79AD and hasn't been excavated yet, so it feels pretty fabulous to be able to visit this...even if it is a fake! However, not everything is fake and there is some question apparently that Greek and Roman artefacts displayed in this museum should be returned to their rightful owners, that they were looted! Well of course we all agree if that is the case...just as long as they are kept in such a beautiful showcase as this. There were plenty of school parties and it seemed a good idea that if many of them would never get to Europe and see real Roman remains, that thanks to John Paul Getty they can see this Roman villa. Funnily enough, according to Getty's biography, he then moved to England and spent the last twenty-four years of his life near Guildford in Surrey. Hmmmmm...Malibu or Guildford? I know which one I would choose!
