A little house on the beach at Malibu

This is the first house that was built on the Malibu coastline in about 1930. Known as the Adamson House, it was not considered architecturally interesting enough to be preserved, but fortunately it was, thanks to the tile decor on both the outside and inside. These tiles, which were made by the owner in her own potteries, are absolutely stunning. And so are the views from the house. A few hundred yards up the coast to the north begins the Malibu Colony where all the film stars have their beach houses, so this view is similar to the one they enjoy. Quite nice, isn't it?!

Look closely at this picture of the hallway inside the house: you can click on it to enlarge it. This is not a rug! It is ceramic tiles. And look at the ceiling. all the ceilings and doors are hand-painted with decorative paint effects and patina. Quite a lot of effort went into this humble beach cottage! I believe it is worth several million pounds now...
