Mountain lion country starts here:

I went up to Peter's Canyon this week intending to do a little hike. However, when I got there I read all the warning notices and decided that it wasn't worth the risk...My hostess had warned me to watch out for the lions and to always carry a stick. "What are they," I said. "A sort of lizard?" (I honestly said that. They have weird names for everything here so lion lizard seemed probable to me...) "No." she said. "They are lions. They eat you. Hit them with the stick." I had noticed that my hostess has a tendancy to exaggerate - she saw a UFO over Hersham and a ghost at Hampton Court - so I took this warning with a pinch of salt. But when I saw the notices, I had second thoughts. So I am sure that Peters Canyon is very beautiful but I won't get to see it this time as I couldn't find a stick...
