Andreas Canyon hike

William, the Red Indian ranger, said I could quite confidently do this hike on my own (and anyway he says he loves rescuing people) so I found myself a stick to beat off the mountain lions with. There is some very useful advice here about mountain lions - if you are attacked, fight back! On the other hand, William said that if you came across a rattle snake just walk around it. The stick might annoy it into attacking you...So I took this photo by using the timer and placing the camera on a rock (it took a few tries until I actually got in the picture!) Unfortunately, these little pictures don't do justice to the magnificent rock formations, full of different colours. But if you click on a photo then click again you will get a screen-sized photo and be able to see more detail.

The stream is usually dried up at this time of the year but due to the torrential rain this week, it was full of water. Each palm tree needs 40 gallons a day (over 150 litre) to survive.
