The Joshua Tree Desert

In fact the Joshua tree is not a tree at all but a spiney old yucca plant. The story goes that the Mormons thought they looked like Joshua raising his arms to heaven. Anyway a whole desert of them is very impressive. But what is so extraordinary about this national park are the huge boulder piles. There are thousands of them. How did they get there? They are so enormous, so round, some of them split perfectly in two, some of them carved into natural sculptures, some piled perilously on top of each other...

Pioneertown - built as a film set for the old cowboy films and now looking pretty much deserted.

  2. Rock Piles.
Linda check up on "This World" and all will be
    revealed.

The piles of rock were put there by the Indians
so that they could hide from the cowboys.

  3. Clever Indians...with super powers! I've added a photo of rock climbing on the boulders to give you an idea of the size of them! Lauren, there were a few other cars around. You're supposed to go in with a survival kit including snake bite antidote. I just had the muffin and a bottle of water and the walks I did were paths where you could spot snakes easily. I filled up with petrol first though!
