Balboa Park
One of the high points of San Diego is this beautiful park where you can get a good old dose of culture in one day. It was built for a World Fair in the late nineteenth century to celebrate the building of the Panama Canal, which of course brought California a whole lot closer to the rest of the world. I went into the art museum and the first thing I saw was a huge map of Paris - Toulouse Lautrec's Paris - and pictures of Montmartre - my Paris too! So I thought I was lucky to be going back to that even if I love California!
